Cepheids: Pulsation, Evolution, Opacity
We describe modeling of the ''beat'' and "bump" Cepheids, using the new radiative opacities. Discrepancies between these models and the evolutionary tracks for stars of appropriate mass are discussed. Finally, we point out some of the difficulties involving the long-period Cepheid sample with periods greater than 20 days.
متن کاملPeriod Changes in Galactic Classical Cepheids. Slow Evolution of Long-period Cepheids
We compared period changes derived from O − C diagrams for 63 classical Cepheids from our Galaxy with model calculations. We found that for Cepheids with log P > 1.0 the observed changes are smaller than predicted values, except variable SZ Cas. However some of the first overtone Cepheids, particularly EU Tau and Polaris, change its period much faster than it follows from theory. Summary of the...
متن کاملOn the pulsation mode identification of short-period Galactic Cepheids
We present new theoretical Period-Radius (PR) relations for first overtone Galactic Cepheids. Current predictions are based on several sequences of nonlinear, convective pulsation models at solar chemical composition (Y=0.28, Z=0.02) and stellar masses ranging from 3.0 to 5.5 M . The comparison between predicted and empirical radii of four short-period Galactic Cepheids suggests that QZ Nor and...
متن کاملPhase Lags and Pulsation Modes of Classical Cepheids
The first-order phase lag between light and velocity is calculated from Fourier decompositions of the variations of 12 classical Cepheids. The phase lags have a narrow range, with maximum expansion velocity always retarded with respect to maximum light. The average value of the first-order phase lag is found to be approximately -0.3, close to the theoretical value obtained from the models of Si...
متن کاملNew Period-Luminosity and Period-Color Relations of Classical Cepheids: I. Cepheids in the Galaxy
321 Galactic fundamental-mode Cepheids with good B,V , and (in most cases) I photometry by Berdnikov et al. (2000) and with homogenized color excesses E(B−V) based on Fernie et al. (1995) are used to determine their period-color (P-C) relation in the range 0.4 < log P ∼ < 1.6. The agreement with colors from different model calculations is good to poor. – Distances of 25 Cepheids in open cluster...
